Conservation Nation has joined as a new sponsor to show their commitment to amplifying and supporting marginalized and historically excluded researchers who professionally work outdoors, allowing FI to have a further reach when providing support for minorities and more inclusive experiences in the natural sciences.
Field Inclusive (FI) is proud to announce that it has secured both a travel and research award sponsorship from Conservation Nation. The donation comes from The Conservation Nation Chrysalis Scholarship which was established in 2022 through a generous gift by Mr. Ted Lukacs, who was an avid nature lover (especially fond of invertebrates, estuaries, and marine habitats) and fervent supporter of education. Four $2,500 Chrysalis Scholarships are awarded each year to youth who are attending college, university, trade school, or completing a specialized certification. This scholarship is intended to allow students from underrepresented communities in conservation to explore studies and opportunities that they would otherwise not be able to experience.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, this is Conservation Nation’s first year as a sponsor of FI. Conservation Nation is a nonprofit organization committed to saving species by making conservation accessible to all.
Conservation Nation believes that in the fight to save animals and the planet, we need every smart voice and innovative solution at the table. Unfortunately, long-standing systems have put up enormous barriers to careers in wildlife conservation. To save wildlife and their habitats we must fuel a self-sustaining movement that brings a more representative and inclusive community of conservationists to the fight, today and in the future. By supporting and amplifying the work of underrepresented voices in the conservation field—such as women, people of color, Indigenous people, and those from disadvantaged communities—we will help save wildlife today, and we will inspire, educate, and uplift a more representative group of future conservationists to follow in their footsteps.
“We have been in constant conversation with Conservation Nation, and I’m so glad we could make this happen” says Lauren D. Pharr, Field Inclusive CEO and co-founder. “We are excited to join them in their mission of being dedicated to promoting a more inclusive outdoors; these are the organizations that FI is honored to continue to work with.”
Special thanks to: Diane Lill, director of education at Conservation Nation for her dedication in initiating this partnership.

Conservation Nation provides funding and support to wildlife conservationists to advance their work and strive to inspire and educate the next generation of wildlife champions. Their programs aim to cultivate a global conservation community of people and organizations working together to bring every perspective and innovative solution to nurture a thriving planet. Since 2016, they have provided almost $800,000 to fund nearly 100 projects around the world. They’ve funded scientists and conservation projects on five continents, focusing on species ranging from tiny, two-inch Panamanian golden frogs in Central America, to 10,000-pound elephants in Asia. And they have educated and inspired tens of thousands of Washington, DC-area children.
