Kiedon Bryant (he/him), a Ph.D. student at Texas A&M University, is the recipient of Field Inclusive’s 2024 Summer Travel Award, sponsored by Tracy Aviary (TA).
This travel award, in the amount of $2000, helps to support applicants (undergraduate, masters, doctoral, or postdoc) to attend a scientific conference, training, or workshop taking place in the Summer 2024 year.
Bryant is prepared to use the award to attend the Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists in Pittsburgh this July to present a poster on some of his research.
Currently studying the evolution of complex behavioral phenotypes using darters (Percidae) as a model system, Bryant is currently using functional genomics to analyze differential gene expression in parenting male darters that were collected this past field season. His work aims to identify which candidate genes are being expressed in both caregiving lineages to access if there’s any crossover in gene upregulation.
“Tracy Aviary is happy to be able to provide support for Kiedon to attend and present his research at the Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists,” says Cooper Farr, director of conservation at Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park. “Kiedon has faced an academic system stacked against him and has managed, despite discrimination, to continue his research in pursuit of a PhD. These travel funds, facilitated by Field Inclusive, Inc., provide a valuable and career-advancing opportunity for Kiedon to present his work and connect with others in the field.”
Applications for 2024 Fall Travel are now open.
