Field Inclusive hosts first Field Inclusive Supporter Social

Co-founded in August of 2022 by Murry Burgess (CEO) and Lauren D. Pharr (CFO), Field Inclusive strives to provide tangible and actionable improvements in the natural sciences by addressing social field safety issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and accessibility. We seek to support all field biologists in the natural sciences, and all those working and recreating in the outdoors through identifying and addressing field safety issues, developing field safety resources, and supporting marginalized researchers through financial aid and experiential learning opportunities.
Field Inclusive would not be able to host our events, or offer financial opportunities to marginalized and historically excluded individuals without the generous donations we receive from individuals, as well as the sponsorships and partnerships from organizations and institutions. The Field Inclusive Team recognized such supporters at our first Field Inclusive Supporter Social (FISS).
An invitation only event hosted virtually, Field Inclusive recognized many of our key sponsors, partners, funders, and donors. Among these included repeat partnering organizations such as Wake Audubon Society and Cape Fear Bird Observatory, keys funders including Burroughs Wellcome Fund, and FI’s 100+ members who support the organization through monetary membership level commitments.
FI also recognized all the accomplishments within our organization this past year, and looked ahead to what is to come next year, which includes expanding the Board and creating dedicated committees for our services, such as a Workshop Committee, Birding Program Leaders, and International Student Support. We are also seeking grants and funding to create paid positions within our organization. Additionally, we plan to expand our volunteer network and social opportunities.
Finally, Field Inclusive will continue to seek more partnerships with nature and wildlife organizations to provide experiential learning fellowships for marginalized students. We will continue to provide research grants and travel awards and to host public events that bring awareness, information, and a fun community environment!
